About this study

In this study, you will be asked to complete a short demographics survey and participate in a stop-signal task. The session duration is shown above and can only be run on a desktop or laptop computer.

What will I be asked to do?

You will press the left or right arrow key to match arrows on screen. When a red XX appears, try to stop your response. Instructions and practice come first, with breaks between blocks. The full task contains 240 main trials.

Your participation

Taking part is entirely voluntary. You can choose not to take part. You may also stop at any time without giving a reason. Consent and demographic answers are saved before the task; completed task responses are saved automatically. Contact the researcher with your participant code if you wish to request withdrawal of data already submitted.

I understand that:

Participation in this study entails filling in a questionnaire and completing a stop-signal task. Any personal data I disclose during the study will be treated with the strictest confidentiality. My consent confirmation and demographic answers (gender and age) will be stored in the study database under a generated participant code. Task responses will be stored in a separate results record linked by that code. These data are coded, not anonymous; the combination of demographic answers may identify me. I will not be asked for my name.

Any personal data collected will be processed solely and exclusively for research purposes and will only be accessible by the lead researcher and the research team. Furthermore, any identifiable personal data that I supply will only be retained until the end of the research project. My personal identity will not be revealed in any publications resulting from this study.

Participant risks and benefits

No foreseeable risks beyond those experienced in daily life are expected to be incurred from participating in this research.

Participant rights

I understand that all the information collected in this study will be handled according to the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). I thus have the right to access, rectify and, where applicable, erase data about myself.

I further understand that my participation in this study is totally voluntary. I also understand that if I decide at any time during or after the research that I no longer wish to participate in this project, I can notify the researcher and withdraw from the study immediately, without prejudice and without the need to provide any justification. Furthermore, I have the right to ask that any personal data I supplied up to that point be destroyed.
